Elements of Piano Technique and Applied Theory is a 12-book comprehensive series (Volumes: 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3b, 3c, 4a, 4b, 4c) that covers 44 different elements and spans Late Elementary to Advanced levels. The Comprehensive Edition is geared toward teachers who may already have a familiar text or collection of scales, arpeggios, chords, etc. which they like using, but are looking for a supplement that provides background theory and/or practice suggestions/strategies. Therefore, the Comprehensive Edition Book 1 (176 pages)contains only the Preparatory Exercises and Theoretical Explanations and from all 3 volumes of levels 1 and 2. This allows the teacher to use their regular collection and augment their teaching and students’ practice.

Technical elements covered include: Major and Minor Pentascales/Triads/Cross-Hand Arpeggios, Major and Minor One-Octave Scales/Arpeggios, Major and Minor Triads/Inversions, Major and Minor Diatonic Triads, Legato Pedaling, Major and Minor Primary Chord Cadences, Four-Octave Major and Minor Pentascales/Triads/Cross-Hand Arpeggios, Major and Minor Two-Octave Scales/Arpeggios, One-Octave and Two-Octave Chromatic Scales (Parallel and Contrary Motion), Trills, Voicing, Leaps, Major and Minor Contrary Motion Two-Octave Scales/Arpeggios, Major and Minor Arpeggios in 1st & 2nd Inversions, Major and Minor Primary Chord Cadences in 1st & 2nd Inversions, and Augmented & Diminished Chords/Arpeggios. There are also checklists included at the end of the book so students can track progress and set tempo related goals.
